Spiritual
Care Ministry Program
Mercy Hospital’s Mission states that “we serve
together, in the spirit of the Gospel, to heal body, mind
and spirit”. Therefore, a distinct focus at Mercy
Hospital is placed on offering the best possible Spiritual
Care.
Expert Staff and Skilled Services
At Mercy Hospital, a Spiritual Care team of highly trained
staff and volunteers provides for the multi-dimensional
and multi-denominational needs of our patients. Highlights
of our guidelines include:
- A Chaplain or a Spiritual Care volunteer will visit
each patient regardless of religious affiliation or non-affiliation.
Respect of a person’s spiritual or religious beliefs
or non-beliefs will always be strictly maintained.
- Chaplains provide expressions of prayer and healing
rituals for all spiritual traditions.
- As a Catholic hospital, Chaplains are attentive to
special sacramental and ritual needs of Catholic patients.
- A Chaplain is involved with ethical consultations with
patients and their families.
- A Chaplain participates in hospital-wide meetings to
articulate and foster continued growth of Mercy’s
Mission and Values.
- Chaplains provide bereavement ministry with patients
and their loved ones.
- The Spiritual Care Department promotes the prayerful
environment of Mercy Hospital through daily prayer broadcasts.
- The Spiritual Care Department encourages patients,
patient families, and staff to write prayer requests in
a book, located in the rear of the hospital Chapel.
Chaplains are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to
8 p.m. You may contact the Spiritual Care Department by
