Daughters Of Isabella Event Benefits Peoples’ Clinic For Better Health
Port Huron, MI…Tea, delicious scones and a bevy of decadent desserts were featured at an outstanding Irish Tea held in early March 2008. The event, hosted by Daughters of Isabella Holy Cross Church in Marine City; and Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Emmett, was designed to highlight Mercy Hospital’s Foundress Sister Catherine McAuley, and raise needed funds to benefit the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health.
Held during the highly successful CelticFest in March, the tea was the inspiration of Terry Nolan, owner of the Irish Rose in Port Huron. Nolan, who considers Catherine McAuley an Irish heroine, has had the opportunity to visit the original House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland.
“We were so pleased to be the beneficiary of this outstanding community event,” comments Peter Karadoff, Mercy Hospital President and CEO. “Its goal was to not only raise funds for the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health, but was a celebration of Mercy Hospital’s rich Irish heritage. I want to thank and congratulate both Terry Nolan of the Irish Rose, and the Daughters of Isabella for bringing this unique event to Mercy Hospital.”
As a result of the event, the Daughters of Isabella presented a check for $1,800 to benefit the Peoples’ Clinic. The Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health is cosponsored by the St. Clair County Medical Society and Mercy Hospital; and is funded in part by the United Way of St. Clair County. The clinic provides free medical care to adults of St. Clair County who lack health insurance and the financial resources to pay for their care.
