Father Paul Higdon Named Mercy Hospital Volunteer Of The Year

Port Huron, MI… With a wave and a smile, Father Paul Higdon of Fort Gratiot, has never skipped a beat as he has been greeted throughout the halls of Mercy Hospital as a Mercy Auxiliary Volunteer Organization (MAVO) member for the past 17 years. For his spirit of generosity and humility, Father Paul Higdon was named the Mercy Hospital 2007 Volunteer of the Year.

At a special celebration dinner held in late April 2008 in recognition of National Volunteer Week, Father Paul Higdon was one of six MAVO members nominated for the award. The award is presented annually to one dedicated volunteer for personifying the Living Spirit of Mercy. Father Paul was heralded for serving as Chaplain, offering spiritual counseling, the sacrament of the sick and reconciliation as well as Mass throughout his tenure.

“Father Paul has been a living icon of the Mercy Spirit and the values we hold for our communities,” comments Peter Karadjoff, President and CEO of Mercy Hospital. “Whether offering Mass in our dedicated Chapel, to ministering to the sick as well as our entire Mercy family, Father Paul has been a fountain of kindness, compassion and spiritual guidance to me and all those he has encountered. We have been blessed to count Father Paul among the true believers in the good works of Mercy Hospital.”
